Valencia High’s Alison Lee is in the field of 32 after winning her first golf match at the U.S. Girls Junior Championship at Lake Merced Golf Club in Daly City.
She defeated Maddie Szeryk from Texas, 3 and 2, to advance to the second round of match play at the tournament.
Lee plays 13th-seeded Su Hyun Oh from Australia this morning.
Lee advanced to the match play portion of the tournament after shooting 8-over in the first two rounds. She was in 19th place.
The second and third rounds of match play are today. The 36-hole championship match is scheduled for Saturday.
In soccer, the Santa Clarita Storm lost, 3-2, to the Bay Area Ambassadors in the first round of the National Premier Soccer League playoffs.
The Storm had a 2-1 lead at halftime, but the Ambassadors scored twice in the second half to win the game.
The Storm finished in second place in the National Premier Soccer League Southwest Conference with a 9-3-3 record.
The Ambassadors move on to play the Sonoma County Sol in the second round of the playoffs.
In basketball, the Lakers added some depth to their bench by signing free-agent Antawn Jamison. He is expected to sign a one-year deal with the Lakers according to sources.
Jamison averaged 17.2 points per game with the Cleveland Cavaliers last season.
In baseball, the Dodgers salvaged the final game of a three-game set against the Phillies, but needed extra innings to do it.
Matt Kemp hit his first home run since coming off the disabled list to give the Dodgers a 5-3 win over the Phillies and snap a four-game losing streak.
Kemp hit a two-run homer, his 13th of the season, in the 12th inning.
But the Dodgers couldn’t make up any ground against the San Francisco Giants. They beat the Braves, 9-4, in 11 innings and have a three-game lead over the Dodgers in the National League West standings.
