1899 - Martin & Richard Wood buy J.H. Tolfree's Saugus Eating House, rename it Saugus Cafe [story]

[SUSD] – Saugus Union School District celebrates our newest academic gains on the STAR state testing. Our API climbed to 890, a growth of 14 points over last year for a total of 24 points in two years. All our schools are over 800 API, with five of them achieving over 900 API. The greatest achievement was in the area of English Language Arts.

Every significant sub-group also scored higher in 2012 than 2011. Our English Language Learners gained another 28 points (840 API) making a total gain of 70 points in two years. Their continued progress reflects the successful implementation of our Systematic English Language Development Program for over 1280 English Language Learners representing over 40 languages in the district.

Our Students with Disabilities also made grand progress, gaining 25 additional points to achieve a 737 API, with a total of 47 points over the past two years. Congratulations to all.

Our children are happy and achieving academic and personal success every day. Our parents are supportive of our parent organizations and schools with incredible generosity of time, talent, and funding for programs. Our teachers continue to inspire and teach our children to be caring citizens and great scholars. Our administrators find new and innovative ways to supplement learning opportunities for children and maintain the daily focus on the importance of teaching and learning. Our Board of Trustees supports and encourages everyone to achieve to their fullest potential.
