The College of the Canyons baseball team committed three errors that helped Orange Coast College score four unearned runs in a 9-3 loss for the Cougars at Pickens Field on Wednesday afternoon. With the loss, Canyons falls to 3-7, while Orange Coast improved to 9-2.
Canyons threatened to come back in the top of the ninth by adding two runs on the board, but it was not enough to pull out the victory.
Canyons’ pitching corps struggled, as every hurler gave up at least one run to the Pirates. Starting pitcher Chad Bennett lasted five innings, before giving way to Tim Han who threw two innings, followed by Armando Esparza, who tossed one inning.
The Cougars only had six hits in the game and two players with multi-hit afternoons. Right fielder David Oppenheim and catcher Taylor Ready both went 2-of-4 in the loss. Oppenheim had a triple and RBI, while Ready turned in a double.
The Cougars look to break their losing streak on Saturday, Feb. 21 as they host Mt. SAC at noon.
