[KHTS] – It’s time to give blood as blood banks need replenishing. You can assist by volunteering to donate at the 5th annual KHTS Home and Garden Show at the Valencia Hyatt Regency on Saturday and Sunday.

The blood donations are being held by Kaiser Permanente as part of their Community  Blood drive. Donations can be made on Saturday between 9am – 3pm.

Kaiser Permanente Blood Donor Center Recruiter, Socque Bellosillo, spoke about the importance of the drive and what it truly means to donate blood.

“We have a great shortage on blood,” stated Bellosillo, “We spend millions of dollars each year buying the blood from the Red Cross. If people donate, we’d save a lot of money.” But more importantly, Bellosillo mentions how “Blood needs to be replenished.”

Despite these desperate times for blood, Bellosillo loves what she does. “It’s so nice to meet good and healthy people from all over; It’s enjoyable,” she said. People are usually highly concerned and cautious about donating blood, but it’s a simple process. You must be seventeen years old and above and you must have your photo I.D.

Bellosillo further explains what can be a setback for the process. Bellosillo mentions how a malaria check is needed for those who have traveled outside of the U.S. or Canada, and people that have received a tattoo within a year and those who have suffered from a heart attack or stroke or have health issues are unable to donate.
