Rep. Duncan D. Hunter

Rep. Duncan D. Hunter

In an effort to crack down on cities and states that ignore federal immigration law, the House passed bipartisan legislation Friday to encourage cooperation between local, state and federal law enforcement agencies.

H.R. 3009 by San Diego Republican Duncan D. Hunter, the Enforce the Law for Sanctuary Cities Act, passed the House 241 to 179. U.S. Rep. Steve Knight, R-Palmdale, voted “yes.”

H.R. 3009 would deny federal funding from law-enforcement related Department of Justice programs to states or localities that operate as “sanctuary cities” and fail to enforce federal immigration laws.

Localities with policies, statues or procedures that prohibit or restrict communication with the Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) or other government entities regarding an individual’s citizenship of immigration status, or prohibit state or local law enforcement officials from gathering information regarding an individual’s citizenship or immigration status would be ineligible from the following DOJ programs:

* State Criminal Alien Assistance Program (SCAAP) – SCAAP provides federal payments to states and localities that incurred correctional officer salary costs for incarcerating undocumented criminal aliens with at least one felony or two misdemeanor convictions for violations of state or local law

* Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS )- Grant program designed to advance the practice of community policing in law enforcement agencies through training and technical assistance, the development of innovative community policing strategies, and national best practices.

* Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (Byrne-JAG) – States and localities use Byrne-JAG to test emerging and evidence-based approaches to the public safety challenges in their jurisdictions, including anti-gang strategies, drug courts, reentry programs, and information sharing.

The need for H.R. 3009 was recently highlighted by the tragic murder of 32-year-old California resident Kathryn Steinle, who was allegedly shot and killed by an illegal immigrant – deported five times and convicted of seven felonies – recently released from a San Francisco jail.

  3. Wow! This was a big accomplishment. So when does the nation deficit disappear?

  5. That a start! Now deport the criminals and fine Mexico if they come back! 100,000.00 per case. And lock them up!

  6. David Francis says:

DON’T WASTE YOUR BREATH TRYING TO GET DONALD TRUMP VOTERS TO DESERT HIM?

The Democrats and GOP career politicians say there is no credence between the rising crime rates of illegal aliens in America? Then we have Jeb Bush looking for votes amongst Hispanics, while Hillary Clinton is doing her share of genuflecting to the same people. Donald Trump focused the beginning of his campaign to become the first president to-be on ending the illegal alien invasion. On July 1, the whole can of worms was opened and neither party could stop the outrage that exploded onto the scene, when Kate Steinle was shot to death on a well known tourist pier in San Francisco. A notorious ‘Sanctuary City” for ignoring federal Rule of Law, that ICE could have some culpability in staying there hand? The American people realized that Trump was right about illegal aliens allowed to flock here, defended by Obama’s illegal executive orders. The U.S. Border Patrol duties have been tamped down by Homeland Security, passed on I am sure with a bitter President who seems to be using any means possible to compromise our National Security and his lax enforcement at the border,

Make no mistake the Leftists will lie and cheat, escaping the fact that any legal Hispanic, Latino or any body else who suffered the torment of being accepted as an immigrant into the United States should relate that their jobs are in peril in future rush of illegal aliens, if Obama gets his way. We all lose?

For decades ‘We the People’ have been subjected to constant let downs, continual backstabbing and poor leadership in the House and Senate that constantly goes against the will of the people; how many times has John Boehner, as Speaker of the House, turned tables on us? Too many to count? The lesser educated don’t see collusion between the parties. The GOP owned by big business who demand discount labor for unknown numbers of businesses; the Democrats who will override the law, allowing illegal alien to vote in our elections?

Just when we think he is going to stand strong and not back down John Boehner gives in to Obama and leaves good Patriots swinging in the breeze. Boehner has sunk conservatives too many times to count…let us down, even misled us…gave in, gave up and threw us under the bus. This is not the kind of leadership we need in Washington fighting the Obama administration. He failed to cut the federal purse against Obama’s Amnesty; even with the majority power in Congress.

But while the manure raker’s in both parties trying to undermine Donald Trump are still denying that illegal aliens are not prominent in the crime wave? Well I started my digging in media, and located in the Cleveland http://www.cleveland.com/ there headlines on the first page “Another illegal alien murder brings Obama’s Amnesty policy to the front”. This information can be easily resolved by clicking on (Fairus) Federation of American Immigration Reform http://www.fairus.org/. Check out their index of 36000 criminal illegal aliens that have been released into our society, which is just a small portion, without a word to the unsuspecting public. Many of these indeterminate releases have major criminal records.

Then this comes just as Republican presidential candidates prepare to gather in Cleveland Aug. 6 to debate immigration and other issues of the day. I am confident that this revolting situation would have been hidden in obscure corner of this media, if the Leftist editorial had been on the case. Thousands of brutal crimes by illegal alien crime never see the light of day—guaranteed-?

We have this troubling issue just reported from Lake County, Cleveland. Of which details are emerging, but police say that Razo, 35, of Painesville, an undocumented immigrant from Mexico, fatally shot a woman at her home, wounded another woman nearby by shooting her in the arm, and attempted to rape a 14-year-old girl. Police, who arrested Razo Monday and held him on a charge of attempted murder while they investigated the events, said that officers met him at least once before. It was on July 7, in response to a report of suspicious activity, according to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office. Chief Deputy Frank Leonbruno said Razo was “in an area he had no permission to be on.” He said deputies called the “border patrol,” who said there was no reason to hold Razo.

That would appear to reflect a policy, formalized by President Barack Obama in November, of using the Department of Homeland Security’s resources for the highest priorities. Those include detaining and deporting violent criminals who are in this country illegally. Other priorities include detaining those engaged in dangerous gang activity or deemed to be threats to national or border security.
But those whose biggest crime is being here illegally are generally let go.

“This is a tragedy that could have, and should have, been prevented,” said Congressman Dave Joyce, a Republican who represents Lake County and has a district office in Painesville. “As a former prosecutor, I will do everything I can to get to the bottom of this situation and make sure justice is served. We need to enforce our immigration laws that are on the books, not blatantly ignore them. Now, as a result of failed immigration policies by the Obama Administration, an innocent life has been taken. That’s unacceptable.”

Obama formalized what some say was already a de facto policy at the Department of Homeland Security and its Immigration and Customs Enforcement division. Some immigration experts said that President George W. Bush’s administration, too, used the informal policy — to only detain unauthorized immigrants whose records or behavior suggested they were a threat to others.
