In early July, the City started construction on the Crosswalk Improvement project which will remove raised medians within the crosswalks providing an unobstructed path of travel.

The project will include the following intersections: Magic Mountain Parkway at Town Center Drive, Newhall Ranch Road at Grandview Drive, McBean Parkway at Decoro Drive, Soledad Canyon Road at Luther Drive, and Soledad Canyon Road at Anne Freda Street.

This project will also update the ramps at these locations to meet the current ADA standards, as required on federally funded projects. Construction is expected to be completed at all intersections by August 14.

For more information on projects happening through out the City of Santa Clarita, visit Santa-Clarita.com.

Hello why is it there in the first place?

  2. Mike Peeples says:

Now maybe the SCV will stop trippin…

  3. I think but not sure, but did they have cameras at any of these intersections? If so that might have the reason. Plus a person crossing could stop and stand on the median if traffic was a problem. But then hard for a person in a wheelchair.

  4. We’re those ADA compliant in the first place?

  5. Mike Bagack says:

And tell them to take out the no u turn sign at Newhall and boutique.

  6. Good. Those were treacherous for my Mom crossing McBean at Decoro with a large walker. Had to lift the walker up onto it or get around it to make it across!

  7. Now if only the drivers can keep their cars out of the crosswalks, then things will be even better.

  8. Herb Schmidl says:

And also out of bike lanes on Soledad between Sierra & Sand Cyn

  9. How about adding a sidewalk to walk on the hill of sand canyon?

  10. For those wondering, I believe these were originally created to help direct cars into their proper lines at the beginning and end of the turn. They were guides. So while we may be helping out peds with their removal, the “weak” or day-dreaming driver may falter without the extra curbing. Maybe small cut-outs a few feet in, like at McBean and Newhall Ranch Rd, would have sufficed.

  11. Tom Snell says:

Why in the hell r they there in the first place. Lmao

  12. All this city does ,is put in medians and then remove them! Ugh!

  13. Why complain about why it’s there in the first place? This is very common to see. I remember when those medians were the only way to cross a busy street without getting killed by heavy traffic. If there was a signal at the intersection, there would also be a walk button on the median for those who couldn’t make it across in time. No, it was not ADA compliant – those laws didn’t exist back then. That is the point – they are fixing it “to meet the current ADA standards”, which is a very good thing.

  14. Kris Doyle says:

Jason, how bout if people just learn how to drive?? They should need to be guided down the road.

  15. Kris Doyle says:

Tricia that was years and years ago, it’s 2015

  16. Why would you put this in a crosswalk period. Now your costing tax payers more money. But than again you don’t care because its not your money. I just want to see a picture of the person who decided this was a good and safe idea.

  18. Jeff says:

Whomever is in charge of the street lights, lane painting and road work is seriously challenged. The light patterns are terrible and set up to stop traffic not keep it flowing.
This must be the same idiot who decided we needed more bike lanes and turned Decoro into one lane. That didnt last long either.
    Idiots

  19. actually never noticed them
