However we have had a great increase in home robberies since the criminals know the will not be heavily penalized. We are even getting criminals from other states coming here do to the light penalties.

I am a 2nd amendment supported. She could be in for a tough time. If she left the house as the article states, armed herself, then re entered the home she made herself the aggressor. You do not have an absolute right to shoot someone in your house. You need to be in a reasonable fear for your life or injury. Returning to the home does not fit a reasonable fear scenario.

I wonder what those who fear vetted citizen gun ownership and legal carry permits and believe it is wrong to keep a gun nearby at night would do in this case. Just wait for a (5-15 minute?) police response and be forced to submit to an unknown intruder? An unknown intruder that is usually not vetted AND carrying without a legal permit?
