Here are agenda highlights for the next meeting of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, set for Tuesday, September 5, starting at 1 p.m.:

Los Angeles County Department of Military and Veterans Affairs honored for the National Day of Service and Remembrance.

LAC + USC STEMI Team celebrated in recognition of being one of the top STEMI Teams in the County.

Supervisor Kuehl recommends instructing the Director of Beaches and Harbors to permanently maintain the rainbow flag wrapping on the Brooks Avenue lifeguard tower on Venice Beach. (Item 4)

Supervisors Hahn and Ridley-Thomas recommend submitting a letter to the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Transportation in support of continuing the Local Hire Pilot Program. (Item 5)

Supervisors Hahn and Ridley-Thomas recommend instructing the Director of the Health Agency to negotiate and execute a readiness agreement with Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science in an amount not to exceed $800,000, to establish a Psychiatry Residency Program as well as a Family Medicine Residency Program. (Item 6)

Supervisors Solis and Hahn recommend submitting a letter to Senator Ricardo Lara, the County’s Legislative Delegation and Governor Edmund G. Brown, Jr., in support of Senate Bill 29.  (Item 9)

Recommendation to authorize the Executive Officer of the Board to negotiate and execute contracts for services to assist the Office of Child Protection with implementation of its Countywide Child Protection Strategic Plan. (Item 13)

Recommendation to approve an ordinance for introduction to amend the proprietary petroleum pipeline franchise granted to Standard Gas Company to reflect Board consent for a change of control of the franchise rights from Standard Gas Company to Chevron U.S.A. Inc. (Item 14)

Recommendation to adopt a resolution fixing the Fiscal Year 2017-18 tax rates for the County, Special District and School District Debt Service Funds. (Item 21)

Recommendation to authorize the Director of Health Services to execute amendments to various Proposition A Dietary and Cafeteria Services Agreements, with Morrison Health Care, Inc. to allow for services to continue at an estimated monthly net total of $2,378,300 at LAC+USC Medical Center, Martin Luther King Jr. Outpatient Center, Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, Olive View Medical Center and Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center. (Item 27)

Recommendation to approve the revised project budget for the Lakewood Golf Course Improvements and Cart Barn Replacement Project from $6,589,000 to $7,586,000. (Item 32)

Recommendation to award the contract for Topanga Canyon full-time, year-round beach shuttle service to Transit Systems Unlimited, Inc., for a maximum potential contract sum of $934,353. (Item 33)

Recommendation to approve the revised total project budget from the previously Board-approved amount of $6,680,000 to $7,430,000 to complete the construction of the Harbor UCLA Medical Center Psychiatric Emergency Services Expansion project. (Item 35)

Recommendation to Authorize the Chief Probation Officer to award and execute a Juvenile Justice Social Programs (JJSP) Master Agreement with 32 vendors to provide a comprehensive, multi-disciplinary service delivery model that supports probationers and at-risk youth and their families. (Item 43)

Los Angeles County Claims Board recommends the approval of the Corrective Action Plan for the matter entitled Susan Berry, et al. v. County of Los Angeles, et al., a lawsuit concerning allegations of wrongful death and Federal civil rights violations by Sheriff’s Deputies (Item 52)

Los Angeles County Claims Board recommends a settlement of the matter entitled Emma Hakobyan v. County of Los Angeles, et al., a dangerous condition lawsuit arising from alleged injuries received in a trip and fall accident in the picnic area of the Castaic Lake Recreation Area, in the amount of $650,000. (Item 53)

Los Angeles County Claims Board recommends the settlement of the matter entitled Kim Pavek v. County of Los Angeles, a lawsuit concerning allegations that an employee of the Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner was subjected to retaliation and sexual harassment and that the Department failed to prevent harassment, in the amount of $400,000. (Item 54)

Los Angeles County Claims Board recommends a settlement of the matter entitled Claim of Donnell Thompson, Sr., a wrongful death claim arising out of the fatal Deputy involved shooting of Plaintiff’s son, in the amount of $1,490,000. (Item 56)

In closed session, Board to consider:

  1. Existing litigation regarding a civil rights action alleging retaliation for engaging in protected activities. (CS-1)
