The Governing Board of the William S. Hart Union High School District has voted unanimously to extend the contract of District Superintendent Vicki Engbrecht through June 2019.
Members of the Board also approved changes in Engbrecht’s work year to 212 days for this school year and the 2018-2019 calendar years, and extended post-retirement health benefits to also include her spouse. There was no change in her salary.
Engbrecht was named Hart District Superintendent in November 2014 on a two-year contract that was extended another two years, which brought her to June 30, 2018. The amendment approved by the Board at its January 31 meeting extends her contract’s term to June 30, 2019.
“Ms. Engbrecht has done what we believe is an outstanding job,” said Board President Steve Sturgeon during the meeting.
“We’ve heard from administrators, the union representatives, the negotiating team as well over the course of the last few years, and from District staff,” Sturgeon said. “We think she’s done an admirable job of helping to create a cohesive team that is working together at the District level and built a great coalition and a positive energy from the management team here at this building and all the way out to our 23 sites.”
Sturgeon praised Engbrecht’s team-building skills during her tenure, as well as her getting the facilities program on schedule and helping to build a future succession plan for the District.
He also thanked Engbrecht for accepting the extension offer, when she didn’t have to.
“She makes us ultimately aware that if she left yesterday, she could earn 105 percent of what she’s going to earn tomorrow for the next year,” Sturgeon said. “So she does this out of love for the district, out of her passion for not only the teaching career she’s had but (also) the leadership skills she’s brought to us.”
