An employee group from Valencia-based Boston Scientific has helped the Santa Clarita Valley chapter of PFLAG create and assemble 800 educational packets for local schools.
Volunteers from Boston Scientific’s People Accepting and Celebrating Equality group and members of PFLAG SCV assembled educational materials designed to help local teachers, counselors and parents support LGBTQ loved ones.
PFLAG SCV is a non-profit chapter of PFLAG National. PFLAG is the extended family of the LGBTQ community, made up of LGBTQ individuals, family members and allies.
LGBTQ is an acronym for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (or questioning).
Boston Scientific’s PACE group is an example of the medical device manufacturer’s community involvement.
PFLAG SCV is a “loving community of compassionate and welcoming individuals providing you a safe place where parents, families, allies and the LGBTQ community can comfortably converse and listen,” according to the group’s Facebook page.
The Santa Clarita chapter was founded in 1988 in response to the need of our LGBTQ youth and their parents, families, friends and allies who were navigating through the coming-out process at a time when there was much apprehension, misunderstanding and antipathy toward the LBGTQ community, according to the PFLAG website.
