Mary Kaye
Critically acclaimed Western Music Singer/Songwriter, Mary Kaye returns to OutWest in Newhall Saturday, Nov. 3. This popular and engag
ing performer will be joined by equally talented local musicians Gency Brown and Robby Bausch (right).
Born in Texas and raised in Mississippi, Mary Kaye ventured off to Utah where she became the wife of cowboy, Brad Knaphus, and mother of 10 children. She writes and sings about what she knows – as a woman, daughter, wife, mother, rancher, traveler, and armchair historian.

Kaye has been recognized by both the Academy of Western Artists (AWA) and Western Music Association (WMA) for her smooth vocal styling with a three octave range and exceptional crafting of lyrics and melodies. Rick Huff, reviewer of music for WMA’s THE WESTERN WAY magazine writes that her music ranges from “haunting ballads to feel good (western) swing and brings out a level of sass and fight in her voice that few other ladies have yet demonstrated.”
Mary Kaye has 3 albums and her latest “No Wilder Place” climbed to number 1 on the Western Music Charts. The title track, written by Mary Kaye and Les Buffham, has been nominated for WMA 2012 Song of the Year. In addition, she has been nominated for Female Performer of the Year and Songwriter of the Year. Awards will be announced Saturday, November 17.
What are the critics saying about this cowgirl songstress:
“Gifted with one of the most dynamic and original voices in Western Music, Mary Kaye delivers the goods with powerful, honey- dipped Southern vocals that demonstrate why this up and comer has already garnered top awards from both the AWA and WMA.” Charley Engle, AMERICAN COWBOY
“Mary Kaye is completely individualistic. You sense no influences. This is pure, marvelous, unalloyed vocal styling that comes as natural as a Southern Breeze……and her songwriting is fascinating.” Marvin O’Dell, MUSIKODE RECORDS
“With her signing, Mary Kaye brings to the table one of the more captivating vocal presentations to come along in a good while. She boasts a wider vocal range (from Soprano to near Bass), a very tight vibrato and dead on accurate pitch across a wide note spread.” Rick Huff, THE WESTERN WAY
