[KHTS] – Of more than 2,000 high schools in California, five William S. Hart Union High School District schools made it into the U.S. News and World Report’s top rankings, according to a recent report by the online publisher.

U.S. News and World report awards gold, silver or bronze medals to schools based a number of different factors that include API scores and student-to-teacher ratios. Of the schools analyzed, 574 were ranked, seven of which were Hart District schools.

Hart High, Saugus High, Valencia High, Canyon High and West Ranch High all received silver medals, ranking between #171 and #333 out of the 574 schools.

For all five schools, the student-to-teacher ratio is less than 30:1, with API scores at more than 800.

Academy of the Canyons and Learning Post also received bronze medals.

The report also includes other specifics about each school, including the percentage of minority students attending the school, the number of teachers and the school’s ranking among high schools across the Unites States.

“I am really proud of the efforts of staff at all our schools, which is truly indicative of these national and state rankings and all the good things happening across our district,” said Superintendent Rob Challinor on the Hart District’s Facebook page. “For the Hart School District to have five schools ranked in the top 2,000 in the nation, of which four are in the top 200 in California, is truly an accomplishment earned by our hard-working students, dedicated teachers, caring counselors, staff and administration and the decisions of the governing board, who all have what’s best for our students in mind.”
