The Santa Clarita Shakespeare Festival is holding auditions for the annual Shakespeare in the Park series. This year’s production will be 12th Night – The Musical, using the words of Shakespeare with a rock and roll score, the play promises to be great fun for the entire family.
12th Night is directed by Erin McBride Africa, with original music by her husband Jay Aftrica. “The concept was work-shopped at a college couple of year’s ago,” says Erin Africa.
“We are very excited to bring it back, revise it and ake this summer the world premire.”
“Shakespeare meets the indy music scene,” says David Stears, the executive director of the company. “I think Shakespeare would appreciate the modern take on his work.”
Auditions are April 25th and April 26th. Actors and singers must have 2 minute Shakespeare monologue, and 16 bars of music to sing acapella. All roles are open, and SCSF practices blind casting (nor adherence to race or gender of most roles). Anyone interested in auditioning is asked to request an audition slot by sending an email to auditions@scshakespearefest.org .

Younger actors will also be considered for the second production for the summer season, “Once more unto the Breach”, an original cutting of Shakespeare’s musings on conflict, honor and death. The piece is the premier piece for the SCSF’s Young Company, comprised of high school students and college students.
Once more unto the Breach is directed by Luck Hari, and will be touring different locations throughout the SCV.
