This year the Office Depot Foundation and the National Foundation for Women Legislators have partnered on a backpack program that donates backpacks to students in need of school supplies across the nation.
In Santa Clarita, 150 backpacks will be donated to kids at the Old Town Newhall Library, located at 24500 Main Street, Newhall 91321, on Saturday, August 19 at 11 a.m.
National Foundation for Women Legislators member and Councilwoman Marsha McLean has invited the Boys & Girls Club of Santa Clarita Valley to participate in the event.
The event is open to the public. Children grades kindergarten through three in need of school supplies may also attend. One backpack per child present will be given away on a first-come, first-served basis, while supplies last.
Councilwoman Marsha McLean will be at the event to help hand out the backpacks and read a book to the students.
Items that will be distributed include:
· 1 Drawstring Backpack
· 1 Zippered Pencil Pouch
· 1 Pen
· 1 Pencil with Pencil Sharpener
· 1 Eraser
· 4 Crayons
· 1 6” Ruler
The Office Depot Foundation National Backpack Program seeks to help kids across the country who may not have the funds to buy school materials by donating sturdy and colorful backpacks containing essential school supplies.
Last year alone, 2,100 backpacks were given to students in need across 23 states.
