Assemblyman Tom Lackey announced Tuesday that he has been appointed to the Assembly Select Committee on Aerospace, established to find ways to help grow California’s aerospace industry.

“I’m honored to be appointed to the Select Committee on Aerospace, where I will work to ensure that this iconic California industry has the ability to expand and create more jobs here in the Antelope Valley and throughout the state,” said Lackey.

California’s aerospace industry employs over 50,000 people in Los Angeles County alone. One of the industry’s largest programs in California is Lockheed Martin’s F-35 Joint Strike Fighter fuselage program, which are assembled at Northrop Grumman’s Palmdale facility.

Lackey was also appointed to the Assembly Select Committee on Community and Law Enforcement Relations, which was created to find creative ways to improve relationships between law enforcement officials and the communities in which they serve.

“As a former California Highway Patrolman, I understand how important it is for law enforcement officers to establish trust with the people they are sworn to protect,” said Lackey. “Today, that responsibility has never been more important. I look forward to bringing my experience and expertise to help this committee address this important issue.”

Lackey represents the 36th Assembly District, which contains portions of Kern, San Bernardino and Los Angeles counties, including the cities of Lancaster, Palmdale, Quartz Hill, Acton, Littlerock, Pearblossom, Mojave, Rosamond, California City, Phelan and Piñon Hills.
