1965 - Signal newspaper owner Scott Newhall shows up for a duel (of words) with rival Canyon Country newspaper publisher Art Evans, who no-shows and folds his paper soon after [story]
headline

[KHTS] Black Friday shoppers are already lining up outside Best Buy in Saugus Tuesday.

Three tents have been set up outside of the Best Buy as of Tuesday morning for the annual day-after-Thanksgiving tradition.

Best Buy, located at 26531 Bouquet Canyon Road, is set to open at 6 a.m. on Black Friday this year.

Tickets are passed out to those waiting in line for door buster sales for items such as televisions, movies and video game consoles, Jonny Morita, asset protection associate at Best Buy, said.

“Some guy last year bought one hundred DVD’s,” Morita said.

The Valdez family, consisting of 19 people, are the first in line at the store. They got in line on Saturday morning, six days before Black Friday.

“We do Best Buy Black Friday every year, it’s kind of become more of a family tradition,” said Jessica Valdez. “My dad started it eight or nine years ago when Circuit City was still around. We just kind of moved from store to store, we’ve been doing this store for like four or five years.”

However, Black Friday is more than just bargains for the Valdez family.

“Every night our whole family is here, we’ll play board games, we play cards together, it’s fun,” Jessica Valdez said. “A lot of people see it as a really bad thing. On Sunday, my 75-year-old grandpa was here and we were playing cards for three hours. If you’re at home, you don’t typically do that. It’s really nice family time for us.”

The Valdez family has arrived to Best Buy earlier and earlier each year, she said. Last year, the family arrived on Sunday, five days before Black Friday, and were second in line.

Even though the family will be camped out in front of Best Buy for days before Black Friday, Jessica Valdez says employees have been friendly.

“We know the manager because we’ve been doing this for so long, like five years, at this location,” she said. “The staff is really friendly, they think we’re crazy but they’re still really nice about it.”

  1. Guillermo Medrano wow !!

  2. To me Black Friday is a waste of time since people would rather wait in long ass lines shopping instead of being home with their families for Thanksgiving and eating like a family like we used to do years ago besides they’re not getting a lot of good prices or deals in my opinion then again if you want to do it so badly do it online where it’s safe and stuff since we’re getting a lot of bomb threats and we’re told to avoid large crowds as well. Coming from a retail associate I’d rather be home with my family eating and spending time together instead of having to work stupid Black Friday!! ??

  3. Angel Bustos says:

They were there yesterday when I went lol

  19. Sheila Lopez says:

Is it there a no loitering law that should be enforced come on this is pathetic

  41. Flips says:

They aren’t there during the day. They put up the tents, then leave. I was there yesterday and one of the tents (third one from left) had fallen over. Looks like a homeless encampment. Thought those were not allowed in SCV?

  42. Seriously? Years ago, the deals were great, and going super early to line up was ok. But I would never have camped out for ANYTHING. This is dumb.

  43. Adam Wolf says:

The TVs they get wont last 2 years..junk!! ??

  44. The tents are empty at night

  45. Anyone got a bear costume I can borrow, I really want to rip through this tents with it!
