A brush fire off the northbound Interstate 5 just north of Lake Hughes Road scorched 25 acres Saturday afternoon before firefighters halted its progress during the early evening, L.A. County fire officials said.
County and Angeles National Forest firefighters stayed on the scene overnight to douse hot spots and mop up. Officials called the blaze 95 percent contained as of 3 p.m. Sunday.
The fire began on the northbound side of I-5 early Saturday afternoon, but jumped the freeway into Marple Canyon and began spreading toward Castaic Lake. The southbound lanes were closed at about 5:11 p.m. for about an hour.
Three firefighters were injured battling the blaze, fire officials confirmed early Saturday evening.
