Tip of the Week: Pedestrian Safety
Anytime there is an accident involving a vehicle and a pedestrian, the results are always tragic. A pedestrian has no protection when going against a 3,000 pound vehicle. As drivers, it is our responsibility to drive safely, obey the posted speed limits, and take extra cautionary measures when driving in residential areas, parking lots, around parks, and when in school zones. NEVER use your cell phone while you are driving. As the pedestrian, we too have a responsibility to mind our own safety. Only cross the street in designated crossing walks, and always look for traffic prior to crossing the street. When walking at night, wear reflective clothing and carry a flashlight. Be aware of cars around you when walking through parking lots. Although the pedestrian always has the right-of-way, NEVER insist on it. You cannot be sure of a driver’s attentiveness while driving.
