Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel responded to a brush fire in Placerita Canyon early Wednesday afternoon.
The call came in just before 1 p.m. of a brush fire on the 21500 block of Deputy Jake Drive, according to spokeswoman Leslie Lua.
“It’s currently at 1.5 acres, running uphill and structures are threatened,” Lua said.
Smoke from the fire, dubbed the Jake Fire by officials, wafted over Newhall and Canyon Country.
UPDATES (latest first)
3:35 p.m.: The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department tweeted that the fire has stopped and all evacuations have been lifted. Fire units will remain on the scene until further notice.
1:55 p.m.: LACoFD reports the total burned acreage at nine — three acres south of Jakes Way and six acres north.
1:44 p.m.: LACoFD officials tweeted that the fire’s forward progress had been stopped at approximately seven acres, and that evacuation orders were being evaluated. A mandatory evacuation was called for south of Placerita Canyon Road between Pepperridge Drive and Aden Avenue.

1:30 p.m.: The Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station tweeted that deputies were en-route to evacuate students from Michael McGrath Elementary to Newhall Elementary.
“PARENTS are asked to reunite & please pick up your students at Newhall Elementary at 24607 Walnut Street in Newhall,” the tweet read.
Fire units will remain on the scene in Placerita Canyon for the next two to four hours, the tweet added.
A mandatory evacuation was called for south of Placerita Canyon Road between Pepperridge Drive and Aden Avenue.

I live a stones throw from where the fire was and I just want to say THANK YOU to all of the fire fighters, first responders, Deputies, and school officials for their amazing efforts to save our neighborhood. It was a very scary event.
