Disney/Pixar’s “Coco” earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Animated Feature Film, a film which CalArts alumnus Adrian Molina co-wrote and co-directed along with Lee Unkrich.
The news came early Tuesday morning as the 90th Academy Awards nominations were announced live from the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills.
“Coco,” which has garnered critical acclaim and took home a Golden Globe last month, is a Dia de los Muertos-themed animated film, which revolves around a young, aspiring musician exploring his family’s Mexican culture and heritage.
“Coco” will be going up against the following nominees for Best Animated Feature Film:
“Loving Vincent”
“The Breadwinner”
“Ferdinand”
“Boss Baby”
The movie was also a double nominee, earning an Oscar nod for Best Original Song, “Remember Me.”
In addition to, “Remember Me,” Best Original Song nominees include:
“Mighty River,” from “Mudbound”
“This is Me,” from “The Greatest Showman”
“Mystery of Love,” from “Call Me By Your Name”
“Stand up for Something,” from “Marshall”

The 90th Annual Academy Awards, which will be hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, will take place Sunday, Mar. 4, at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood and will be televised live on the ABC Television Network at 6:30 p.m. ET/3:30 p.m. PT.
