[KHTS] – The SCV Boys & Girls Club and city of Santa Clarita officials hosted their annual Day For Kids at Newhall Park on Saturday.
A variety of free games, activities, entertainment and prizes were available for Santa Clarita Valley children throughout the day, including a raffle, performance stage and more.
“The Day For Kids has been an annual celebration that we’ve had here in the community for years,” said Bryan Lake, interim CEO of the SCV Boys & Girls Club. “Every year we put this on and we invite all these organizations to come in. They set up an activity and everything is free– the food, all the games, goodies and giveaways are free. It’s just a wonderful celebration.”
Every child was set to receive five free raffle tickets for the chance to win prizes like Disneyland tickets, bicycles, certificates for performing studios, movie baskets and more.
“The raffle is only for the kids, not the grown-ups,” Lake said. “The kids go around and look at the different raffle items and they’ll drop a raffle ticket in the jar of what they want to compete for. During the course of the day, we’ll raffle off the items.”
A performance stage with a variety of family-friendly entertainment was also set up in the center of the park.
Lake expected anywhere from 3,000 to 5,000 people to attend the event, with around 2,500 children. The event typically draws children ages four to about sixteen, he said.
“It’s not a moneymaking venture. We do it because we believe in the community and we believe in the kids,” Lake said. “That’s where our heart is: with the kids. Everything we do as an organization is thinking of the kids.”
