More than 200 vehicles lined Main Street Sunday for the Old Town Newhall Association’s fifth annual classic car show.
The event was free to the public and held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday. Attendees could expect to enjoy a wide array of classic cars, vendor booths and shops and restaurants that line Main Street and the surrounding area.
Sue Bird, chairman of the Old Town Newhall Association, said the event was designed to bring people to a revitalized area of Santa Clarita to see what local car enthusiasts had to offer.
“We have 217 classic vehicles for people here today,” Bird said. “Every side street has a gem hidden on it. We believe in the small mom-and-pop shops and that’s what Old Town Newhall is all about. We want to bring people down to see the improvements, what shops are here and remind them we’ve got a great and glorious place.”
Live music was provided halfway down Main Street, and the band played from the bed of a classic General Motors truck, which had been turned into a makeshift stage for the show.
Scott Jacomb, owner of a 1928 Ford two-door sedan, displayed his car at the event and allowed kids to sit in the driver seat and use the vintage horn.
“I bought the car 31 years ago, when I was 18, and it was a sports coupe when I bought it,” Jacomb said. “The body was terrible, so I completely replaced it and there are only 10 original parts remaining in the car. The kids like to sit in it and honk the horn, hopefully it will help inspire them to love cars when they are older.”
Galpin Motors and the City of Santa Clarita were the two major sponsors of the event.
The car show stretched from Lyons Avenue to the roundabout at the intersection of Newhall Avenue and Main Street.
