Two more members of the College of the Canyons women’s soccer team have committed to continue their playing careers at the next level, as sophomore defenders Lucy Maino and Kristen Fowble have both elected to attend San Diego Christian College.

San Diego Christian College is a National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) program located in Santee, CA. The Hawks compete in the Golden State Athletic Conference (GSAC) and are also members of the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA).

Both Maino and Fowble starred as key two-year players for COC head coach Justin Lundin, helping the Cougars win back-to-back Western State Conference (WSC) Championships in 2014 and 2015.

The COC women’s soccer program has won five straight conference titles dating back to the 2011 season.

Maino started 20 games for the Cougars in 2015, while also serving as a team co-captain. She registered one goal and two assists during her sophomore campaign and ranked fifth on the team with nine shots on goal.

Maino, who attended high school at Heritage Christian, is also a member of her native Papua New Guinea women’s soccer national team. Last summer she helped PNG to a victory at the Pacific Games, an Olympics-style competition specifically held for Pacific nations including Fijiu, Samoa and Guam. However, the team lost to New Zealand in a January playoff game held to determine which nation would be heading to the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

Fowble finished her COC career with 18 starts and 32 games played across two seasons.

The Valencia High School product scored two goals and tallied four assists during her two seasons at Canyons, while playing a key role on the defensive end.

In 2015 the Cougars allowed opponents to score just 17 goals, while posting nine shutouts.

Canyons finished its season with a 14-2-5 overall record and a berth in the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) SoCal Regional Playoffs.
