Public Safety and Crime Prevention Information for the week of 12/07/15 to 12/13/2015

A petty theft shoplifting occurred on the 25500 block of The Old Rd. Two female adults left the location with two carts of toys and electronics without paying.The informant stated that she recognized the suspects from a previous shoplifting incident. No arrest was made.

A petty theft shoplifting occurred on the 25400 block of The Old Rd. A male adult entered the location, selected a television from the display shelf, then exited the location through a rear emergency exit without paying for the item.

A grand theft from vehicle occurred on the 25400 block of Holmes Ct. Person(s) unknown entered the victim’s unlocked vehicle and stole ( 2) pairs of sunglasses (valued at $800.00), a designer diaper bag containing various items of baby clothes (valued at $600.00) and $20.00 in U.S. currency.The vehicle was parked in front of the victim’s home at the time of the incident.

Another vehicle burglary occurred on the 25400 block of Holmes Ct. Person(s) unknown entered two of the victim’s vehicles and stole numerous electronic items as well as credit cards and social security cards. The victim stated his vehicles were locked, however there was no sign of forced entry.The vehicles were parked in the driveway of the victim’s home.

Tip of the Week: Avoiding Theft of Packages

Theft of packages during the holiday seasons is an ongoing problem every year. Most commonly, thieves will actually follow delivery trucks and pick up packages just moments after they were delivered. However, technology has provided us with many ways to track our packages and know better when they will be delivered.Here are some tips to help you protect yourself from these thefts:

Whenever possible, try to schedule the delivery of your packages when you will be home.

Request that the packages need to be signed for at delivery time.

If you cannot be home for a delivery, see if a neighbor or family member can keep an eye out and pick up your packages for you.

Consider renting a mail box either at the post office, or a private company to have your packages safely delivered too for the holidays.

If you see someone in your neighborhood stealing packages from doorsteps, call the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station immediately and report this incident.

If you are employed as a delivery driver, be aware of anyone who may be following you, and call your local police department or Sheriff’s Station immediately if you notice anything suspicious.
