To kids, summer is fun and exciting, but there are always opportunities to learn and grow. California State University, Northridge offers a series of youth enrichment programs and camps for elementary, middle and high schoolers to mature socially and academically.
If your child is interested in theater, the Teenage Drama Workshop (TADW) is an intensive summer workshop that offers students training in the areas of acting, dance, voice, playwriting or technical theater arts such as costume design, stagecraft, lighting and sound.
Teenage Drama Workshop provides students entering grades 7 to 12 a six-week, conservatory-style summer workshop. This year, the award-winning workshop will present performances of The Little Mermaid Jr. and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
The workshop will run from June 15 to July 26. Spaces are still available and will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. The deadline for registration is Sunday, June 7. For more information about the program, costs or to register, visit the TADW website at www.csun.edu/tadw or call (818) 677-5811.
Registration is also open for the University Student Union’s Sunny Days Camp, which is offered to students in grades K through 7 for nine weeks, from June 8 to Aug. 14. Sunny Days Camp provides half- or full-day weekly sessions of fun. Campers can participate in a variety of traditional camp activities such as sports, games, arts and crafts, rock climbing, swimming and field trips. There will be more than 300 campers per week and a staff of 45 CSUN students.
There are exciting weekly field trips, daily free swim classes and lunches included in the registration price.
“The camp is a great option for kids because it is a safe and fun day camp program,” said Sunny Days Director Jeremy Hamlett. “Sunny Days Camp is a place where campers and counselors build lifelong memories.”
For more information about Sunny Days’ programs, costs or to register, visit the Sunny Days website or call (818) 677-3617. Discounts are available for CSUN faculty, staff and students.
The university also offers academic enrichment programs for elementary, middle and high school students. The Summer Academic Program for Elementary School Students (SAPESS) runs from June 22 to July 24. The program offers small class sizes to foster social and emotional development and growth. SAPESS encourages students to explore knowledge, discover talents and nurture new friendships. The classes are planned collaboratively by all of the program’s teachers to motivate and challenge students through exciting, hands-on academic and enrichment activities.
For more information about the program, costs or to register, visit the SAPESS website or call (818) 677-4886.
The Summer Academic Enrichment Program (SAEP), which runs from June 22 to July 24, offers classes to middle and high school students which are designed to reinforce and enhance the curriculum of their regular schools. The program also offers courses for high school students seeking to earn high school credit during the summer.
