Crime Impact Team deputies from the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station arrested a 33-year-old man Tuesday who allegedly “viciously” attacked another man in a wash across the street from a Newhall liquor market last week.
The victim and the suspect, both transients, are known to each other, according to station officials.

“On the night of Jan. 16, Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies responded to a local hospital regarding ‘an assault victim.’
“The victim, a 43-year-old male Hispanic, was reportedly hit with a blunt object and possibly a glass bottle, causing significant facial injuries.
“Through detectives’ investigation, the suspect was identified to be Alex Gaytan, a 33-year-old male Hispanic, and local transient.
“On Tuesday, Jan. 22, at approximately 10 a.m., CIT deputies located suspect Alex Gaytan (pictured above) in the area of Railroad Avenue and 14th Street.
“Deputies arrested Gaytan on felony charges of mayhem, and transported him to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station jail, where he is currently being held on $100,000 bail.”
