Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff Deputies Quintana and Wilson were patrolling in the area of Soledad Canyon Road and Whites Canyon Road in Canyon Country on Tuesday at about 7 p.m. The deputies observed what they believed to be a hand to hand narcotics transaction. The deputies detained two men in order to conduct further investigation.
One of the men (Jonathon Lafon, a 23-year-old male from Saugus) was seated inside a vehicle, while the other man (Bryan Rychwalski, a 30-year-old male from Palmdale) was seen leaning into the passenger window of the vehicle.
The deputies began an investigation and discovered that Jonathon Lafon was in possession of heroin and hydrocodone pills on his person. Inside the vehicle, deputies found a large zip lock bag containing marijuana and methamphetamine. As the deputies continued their investigation they found a digital scale and numerous empty plastic baggies and hypodermic needles.
During a record check of the vehicle’s license plate, deputies discovered the vehicle Jonathon Lafon was sitting in was a reported stolen. A stolen vehicle report was originally taken by the Los Angeles Police Department – North Hollywood Community Police Station. It was also discovered that Mr. Lafon had an outstanding misdemeanor arrest warrant for possession of a controlled substance.
While the deputies spoke with Mr. Rychwalski they saw that he displayed the symptoms of a person who is under the influence of a controlled substance. After performing field sobriety tests, the deputies arrested Mr. Rychwalski for suspicion of being under the influence of a controlled substance.
Deputies placed Mr. Lafon under arrest for taking a vehicle without owner’s consent, possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana for sale, possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine) for sale.
Both men were transported to and booked at Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station. Mr. Lafon is being held in lieu of $30,000 bail. Mr. Rychwalski was released on a notice to appear and is due back in court in approximately sixty days.
