The Los Angeles Dodgers on Monday announced that Dave Roberts has agreed to a four-year contract to manage the club through 2022.

Dodgers President of Baseball Operations Andrew Friedman stated in his announcement that “keeping Doc as our leader on the field was a top priority this offseason and now that we’ve accomplished that we are excited to collectively shift all of our focus to doing all we can to bring a World Championship to our passionate fans.”

In his first three years as manager, Dave Roberts skippered three National League West titles and consecutive World Series appearances in Los Angeles. All offseason, as the Dodgers sorted through his contract situation, they envisioned their success continuing with Roberts at the helm.

On Monday, the two sides put pen to paper. Roberts inked a four-year extension that runs through 2022, the team announced, adding three years onto the contract he was already guaranteed.

The 46-year-old won the 2016 National League Manager of the Year Award and was a finalist again in ’17. The Dodgers are 287-200 under Roberts since he took over as skipper before the ’16 season.

“When I was hired to lead this team three years ago, I said at the time that managing the Dodgers is truly the opportunity of a lifetime and I feel the exact same way today,” said Roberts as part of an official team release. “We’ve worked hard to develop a team and culture that will put us in position to win the World Series every season, but we still have yet to achieve our ultimate goal and that is what drives me each day.”

Monday’s announcement ensures Roberts will remain in Chavez Ravine as he seeks to help Los Angeles secure its first championship since 1988.

Immediately following the season, the Dodgers picked up the option on Roberts’ contract for 2019. That move ensured that he’d remain in Los Angeles as the two sides continued to negotiate a deal. The deal came to fruition on Monday, as Los Angeles secured Roberts for three additional years past ’19.

This extension gives Roberts an opportunity to become the first Dodgers manager to skipper the team for more than five years since Hall of Famer Tommy Lasorda helmed the club from 1976-96.
