Downed power lines sparked a small fire in Val Verde Monday morning, burning about an acre of brush before it was extinguished, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County Fire Department said.
The fire began shortly after 7 a.m. on San Martinez Grande Canyon Road, near Highway 126, prompting a response of firefighters from two battalions.
No one was hurt, and no structures were threatened by the fire.
A passerby reported seeing fire and phoned 911.
“The passerby said a power line was down and sparked the base of the (utility) pole,” Fire Department spokeswoman Vanessa Lozano said.
The call came in at 7:05 a.m.; by 7:17 a.m., firefighters were on site.
The fire was extinguished quickly, releasing firefighters from the scene at 10:14 a.m.

What in the world is wrong with Edison – that’s the second fire over there from downed lines in a month and we haven’t even had any really bad winds yet. Yes, looks like this will be a bad fire season, but it will be because of edison’s lack of maintenance, not the brush. These are all human caused fires, homeless, cars and Edison. We all need to go solar on our own roofs, for our own safety – get rid of transmission lines, since edison doesn’t seem to be able to maintain them anymore.
