[KHTS] – Thirteen names are expected to appear on the ballot for Santa Clarita City Council now that the filing deadline has passed, a city official said.
The race provides one of the more crowded candidate pictures in recent times, with much of the interest spurred by Santa Clarita City Councilman Frank Ferry’s decision not to run for a fifth term.
Ferry said he planned to step away from politics to spend more time with his family.
That leaves the door open for at least one new face. Three seats are up for grabs in the April 8 election.
Santa Clarita Mayor Laurene Weste and Mayor Pro Tem Marsha McLean both filed paperwork to seek re-election. They’ll be joined on the ballot by Dante Acosta, Sandra Bull, Moazzem H. Chowdhury, Dennis Conn, Stephen P. Daniels, Alan Ferdman, Berta Gonzalez-Harper, Maria Gutzeit, Duane Harte, Gloria Mercado-Fortine and Paul Wieczorek.
Information on the procedure for the City Council election is available on a special city website.
