FREE Outdoor Screening of “The Goonies”

The Goonies is a 1985 American adventure–comedy film directed by Richard Donner. The screenplay was written by Chris Columbus from a story by executive producer Steven Spielberg. The film’s premise features a band of pre-teens who live in the “Goon Docks” neighborhood of Astoria, Oregon attempting to save their homes from demolition, and in doing so, discover an old Spanish map that leads them on an adventure to unearth the long-lost fortune of One-Eyed Willie, a legendary 17th-century pirate.

 

 

Super Hero Green Screen Activity

Pop-Up Short Film Theater

Enjoy an array of short films created by local and regional filmmakers.  Over 20 short films will be screened in the parking lot of Taco Llama for your viewing pleasure.  Some are funny, while others are thought provoking.  Come check out these short films at this pop-up outdoor theater.

 

 

Space Hunter: Adventures in The Forbidden Zone 

Movie Motorcycle Prop compliments of Melody Ranch Motion Picture Studios

“Space Hunter: Adventures in the Forbidden Zone” is a 1983 pulp, action-comedy, science fiction film. The movie starred Peter Strauss, Molly Ringwald, Ernie Hudson, Andrea Marcovicci, and Michael Ironside and was directed by Lamont Johnson.

When the movie came out in theaters, parts of it were shown in 3-D and the film became part of the 3-D movie revival craze of the early 1980s.

The movie is about a bounty hunter who goes on a mission to rescue three women stranded on a brutal planet and meets a vagrant teenage girl along the way.

 

 

 

Walk of Western Stars Guided Tours

Join local historian EJ Stephens on a 45-minute walking tour of the “Walk of Western Stars,” and learn about all of the stars that are recognized along Main Street.

The Walk of Western Stars, sponsored by the City of Santa Clarita and the Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of Commerce, began in 1981 to honor the legends of Western film, stage, television and radio who have contributed to America’s heritage since 1900.

The Old West comes alive again each year when Western stars are immortalized in bronze and terrazzo tile on the streets of Old Town Newhall.

 

Live Sound Effects Show/Demonstration      

Tony “Sparx” Palermo is a sonic showman who uses voice, music, and sound effects to create worlds before your very ears. An award-winning radio drama artist and educator, he hosts this website to share the magic of telling stories via sound. Tony’s worked for the United Nations, public radio, audiobooks, theaters, museums, schools and colleges across the world. Also known for his Sparx Audio Adventure educational programs for children.

 

 

 

Movie Memorabilia and Costume Display

Richard La Motte was the costume designer for the popular 1983 film “The Goonies,” “Rambo III,” “Planet of the Apes,” and many Television shows including Batman!  This display brought to you by Mr. La Motte will feature drawings of costumes and accessories from a variety of films, as well as some actual costumes from “The Goonies.”

 

 

Film Reel Art Display and Raffle

Pop-Up Animated Shorts Theater

Animation by students and faculty from the CalArts Character Animation, as well as works from College of the Canyons Animation Department students, and other local filmmakers will be featured in this one night pop-up theater along Main Street.  Sit down and enjoy a few short pieces and then move on to your next destination at FILM SLAM.

 

 

 

Motion Picture Theme Songs by DJ Victor Martinez

How many hit movie songs can you think of?  Over the years there have been some great songs that have hit number 1 on the charts, or got stuck in our heads from time to time.  The themes from Star Wars, Harry Potter, 2010: A Space Odyssey, Titanic, and so many others will be heard at FILM SLAM.

 

 

Stop Motion Animation Experience

Create your own animation by using the stop motion effect brought to you by Generation Arts.  Leo is a Cal Arts Alumni, writer, animator and instructor who teaches stop-motion animation with Generation Arts.   At the Film Slam, Leo will provide people with the opportunity to experience animation in action by creating their own mini short films using legos, action figures and other objects and items. You can even animate yourself.  Come and enjoy animation in action!

 

 

Silent Film Comedy Shorts by RetroFormat & America Cinematheque

Enjoy non-stop fun at this very special screening area.  Retro Format will screen a full night of Silent Comedy Shorts with live piano accompaniment.  They will run the films on a vintage 8 mm projector!

William S. Hart Walk of Western Stars Display, Hart Bingo & Roping!

The William S. Hart Museum will feature a display of memorabilia, video clips from Hart films, cowboy merchandise, and roping near the Western Star’s star along Main Street.  Come play Hart Bingo!  Pick up a bingo card and watch for the cowboy hat, covered wagon, record player, books, small teepee, etc.   If you get Bingo you get a prize from Bill Hart’s safe!

 

 

VJ David Cabrera

Video Jockey David Cabrera will project his art form onto a wall in Newhall along Main Street.  VJ Cabrera features experimental video and music in his art.
