Henry Mayo will join other emergency agencies on March 29 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Emergency Expo at the Hyatt Regency Valencia  to help prepare the Santa Clarita Valley community for disasters such as earthquakes, wildfires and windstorms. Henry Mayo, a co-presenter of the Expo, is one of 13 Disaster Resource Centers in Los Angeles County.

The Expo will feature displays, presentations and drills from local emergency response teams, as well as exhibitors with products and services for emergency preparedness, response and recovery.

Terry Stone, emergency preparedness manager at Henry Mayo, staff and volunteers will set up the hospital’s inflatable surge tent, which in times of disaster, would serve as a triage area, complete with cots, privacy curtains and supplies and equipment. Basically, the tent can handle 20 patients– 10 gurneys and 10 chairs, Stone said. The 24’ x 18’ tent would be used in the event of a disaster incident such as an earthquake.

Stone’s team will lead various safety demonstrations and exercises for children and adults. The team will also provide special information packets for seniors and people with disabilities.
