I knew the man who was unfortunately robbed of his life much too early. Very humble man that minded his own business. Find this coward who had no courage to stop and aid this poor soul. Just know you took someone’s father away.
I knew him too. One of the kindest people I know. May he rest in paradise!

My heart felt sympathies are with this poor man having lost his life, I feel so sorry for his family and children. After going through the loss of our own son Wyatt Savaike, we learned that even when a driver speeds, runs a red-light and fails to yield to a pedestrian taking their life there is very little penalty or consequence for their actions. I suspect those that flee the scene of an accident might be possibly under the influence or something because the odds are the driver would not have been charged with anything. Like almost every other pedestrian killed on our streets, most are never even ticketed. In my mind I think as a community we need to take pedestrian safety more seriously. We need the red-light cameras back, Wyatt was taken just a few months after the removal of the cameras and the thing is, our city had four years of records, numbers and statistics that substantiated that Seco and Bouquet was the worst intersection for red-light runners, every month, every year for four straight years. We have built so many homes out here and with it, all we offer is major streets that fail to take pedestrian safety a priority. It is a real problem all throughout this valley, it has grown so much and is touted by our city as a family community, even “Awesome Town”, but what is so awesome about building streets with dangerous roadways and speed limits? These limits are not survivable to pedestrians and on top of that so many of us regularly exceed these limits by 5, 10 and 15 miles an hour. With those speed limits drivers must know, there is no room for driver error, no room. I am not sure when our community will say, enough is enough, There is not enough law enforcement officers to cover this vast valley of freeway like speed limits, roads that encourage bad behavior, roads that we should not walk for we cannot survive these limits. The penalties for speeding, running red lights, drinking, being reckless all must be increase and increase substantially to deter all of this bad driver behavior. We all see the drivers, some even moms with their cars full of their own children rushing to get them to soccer or football practice. We need to penalize these drivers for their behavior and hit them in the wallets to deter them from running red lights, speeding, etc., we need to stop calling every unfortunate pedestrian loss of life by a vehicle an accident. Here is why I say this, no one makes up put our foot to the pedal and speed up to make a red light, no one makes us run a red light, no one makes up text or talk while we drive, no one makes anyone get drunk or race down our streets because they failed to plan accordingly and are now rushed to get where they need to go. I hope people can come together and also ask our city to address our unsafe roads, they keep trying to tell us they are trying to address traffic, how? Speed limits do not help in rush hour traffic and that is where and when the majority of us become frustrated. So surely we do not need these ridiculously high and deadly speed limits at all – I think that lives are more important, our pedestrians, our elderly, our disabled, the poor, these are those forced to walk – and reducing our speed limits can and will save lives, pedestrians do not have a chance when hit. Really, reducing our speed limits a bit might put a few extra minutes when driving during non rush hour traffic – but don’t you think lives are worth it? And again, high speed limits really do not help when we want it the most, that is during rush hour traffic. We also need to raise the penalties for killing people, sometimes there are sad and senseless accidents but out here, when we are speeding, when we fail to look ahead, when we fail to even look for a pedestrian while speeding, etc.., those are not senseless and unavoidable accidents. I do wish our community to come together and demand safer roads for all that use them. We have so many things to address and correct and change – it feels as if driving like MAD MAX, playing Russian Roulette with our vehicles and then slapping a driver on the hands when they take a life – does nothing to deter people from their behavior. We deserve more, this man, though I do not know all the facts, I feel for his family, I just wonder though, have we all become so selfish that we think we own the roads, people own the roads, not just drivers, they are built for walking, biking and driving and its high time that our city does all it can to make pedestrian safety a top priority. If we do nothing, this awful roadway behavior will only continue, where has human consideration and honor gone? Where has responsibility and caution gone, where has our integrity gone? I pray they find this driver that took this poor mans life, I pray for peace for his family and I pray and hope that as a community we rise and demand ways to protect our loved ones, family and friends. Traffic is a huge problem out here, there are plans for thousands and thousands more and if we do not start to mobilize as a community traffic and deaths will certainly increase. There are cities all over our country trying to make a difference, making pedestrian safety a priority including New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles we must and can do better but it takes a community to direct change.
