Sophomore Jeniece Jimenez finished with five hits and four RBIs as College of the Canyons softball scored a season-high 22 runs to defeat host Compton College 22-5 on Tuesday, Feb. 3.
Jimenez was one of five Cougars with multiple hits on the day. She scored five runs and was joined by freshmen Jordan Shepherd, Alexa Miranda and Jasmine Soriano as players with two or more RBIs.
COC began the game with a 13-run first inning that featured nine hits and four Coyotes’ fielding errors. The Cougars also produced four-run innings in the third and fifth frames.
Anais Perez improved to 2-0 on the year for her three innings of work. Perez allowed two runs on six hits before handing the ball to Cassandra Farrow for the final six outs. Farrow was charged with three runs and issued a pair of walks.
Compton (2-4) suffered its second straight loss. The Coyotes were limited to eight hits in the game and committed eight errors in the field.
Canyons (4-1) has now won back-to-back shortened five-inning games, also defeating Grossmont College 11-3 on Saturday, Jan. 31. That victory came as part of a three-team doubleheader hosted by Chaffey College. COC lost 3-2 to the host Panthers to split the day’s action.

Upcoming Schedule
The Cougars play in a non-conference contest at Oxnard College on Thursday, Feb. 5. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
Canyons then hosts a non-conference doubleheader vs. Santiago Canyon College on Friday, Feb. 6. Those games are scheduled for 1 and 3 p.m. and will be livestreamed to fans free of charge via YouTube on the Cougars Sports Network.
