Gardening equipment believed to have been stolen from CalArts.
Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies arrested a Valencia man on drug and ammunition possession charges Friday morning after the man tried to hide from deputies on the roof of his neighbor’s property.
Eric Cornell, 25, was arrested at his home in the 24700 block of Masters Cup Way, after deputies attempted to contact him for several reasons.
“Deputies were attempting to contact the suspect, who was on probation, in connection with a probation search and because he was a person of interest in a separate, active investigation,” said Deputy Josh Dubin of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.
Deputies arrived at the home Friday morning, and after attempting to make contact, noticed that he was trying to flee his home through a second-story window, officials said.
A deputy followed Cornell’s movements, observing him climbing out of a window and onto the roof.
After about 15 minutes of talking to the suspect, deputies were able to talk him down and take him into custody without further incident, officials said.
After affecting a search of his residence, deputies found property they suspect was stolen, which might have been taken from CalArts earlier last month.
The stolen property is several pieces of gardening equipment and water hoses.
Deputies also reported finding heroin, drug paraphernalia and ammunition – which is illegal for a felon to possess in California – in Cornell’s home.
Deputies are in the process of identifying the owners of the property they suspect to be stolen, officials said.
Cornell is currently being questioned by detectives with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station regarding the investigation.
Details about that crime were not released because it’s considered an active incident, officials said.
Arrest records have not yet been updated by the Sheriff’s Department as Cornell was being booked as of the publication of this story.

arrested for ammo?
Felons can not be in possession of ammunition. If a “prohibited person” is at the residence, firearms and ammunition must be secured in a manner where the felon can not gain access to it, like in a safe. The article eludes to him being a felon. Sounds like it was a probation check.
He had all that on the roof?
