Our City takes caring for the environment seriously with not just words, but with action. I invite the entire community to join me in attending the Earth Arbor Day Festival, where going green is fun and easy! The festival is a great way for you and your family to learn about ways you can help protect our environment.
This special event is held in conjunction with worldwide Earth Day and will bring thousands of residents together at Central Park. This year’s event will be held on Saturday, April 29 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Sunday, April 30 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
In an effort to fulfill our mission of creating a sustainable community, the City of Santa Clarita, in partnership with the SCV Family of Water Suppliers, will host this free Earth Arbor Day Festival, designed to generate excitement in the community about eco-friendly living. The festival will include tree plantings, educational presentations by local organizations, healthy food for purchase, recycled art exhibits and more!
Festival goers can partake in solar energy cooking, where you can eat chocolate chip cookies cooked by the sun! Hands-on activities include a craft station where you can make scarves and bracelets from old t-shirts and build a Mason jar herb garden. There’s even an opportunity to learn about lady bugs (and also collect them)!
As a result of its “green” efforts, the City has been named “Tree City USA” by the National Arbor Day Foundation for the 27th consecutive year! As part of the City’s acceptance of this award, we will commit to planting more trees throughout the community in the coming year to improve air quality, reduce greenhouse gases and provide shade and habitat.
If you are interested in volunteering at the festival, there are many opportunities available to you, like planting and tagging trees, assisting with activity booths and helping to distribute mulch. To register as a volunteer, visit SantaClaritaVolunteers.com.
This year’s Earth Arbor Day Festival will be combined with the KHTS Santa Clarita Home and Garden Show, the Emergency Expo and the KHTS Arts and Crafts Fair.
I encourage you to visit GreenSantaClarita.com to find out more about the City’s Earth Arbor Day Festival, and to find out ways you and your family can go green in big and small ways. You can also “like” Green Santa Clarita on Facebook for tips and updates on events.
I hope to see you and your family at Central Park!
Best regards,
Ken Striplin

Oh really? Is that why you changed this to the Home and Garden show? and you are having the Cowboy poetry festival on Earth day? I would rather attend a real earth day celebration elsewhere, like maybe the climate march in Los Angeles that will be held that week end. Have fun with all your garden sales and pool supplies!
