Visible from all angles, the blue light lets deputies know when the light on the other side of the pole has turned red.
In an effort to improve traffic safety at seven major intersections, the City of Santa Clarita has installed new blue light enforcers which serve as red light violation detectors on traffic signals at each site.
The seven locations were chosen due to their high incidents of red light violations. A total of 15 blue lights have been installed at the following intersections: Bouquet Canyon Road and Newhall Ranch Road, McBean Parkway and Valencia Boulevard, McBean Parkway and Magic Mountain Parkway, McBean Parkway and Newhall Ranch Road, Bouquet Canyon Road and Seco Canyon Road, Soledad Canyon Road and Whites Canyon Road and Lyons Avenue and Orchard Village Road.
The blue light allows sheriff deputies to observe the status of a red light from across the street. The light illuminates when a traffic signal changes to red, allowing the sheriff’s deputy to safely and easily monitor and address motorists running the red light, without having to pursue a vehicle through an intersection. The blue lights are not red light cameras.
The installations of these traffic engineering tools were added as part of the City’s focus this year to improve traffic safety which also includes working with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Department on more enforcement, and increasing education and outreach to encourage safer driving.
“We’re embarking on increased traffic enforcement and to combat issues that are the cause of the majority of traffic accidents in Santa Clarita, such as speeding, failure to yield, distracted driving and various other unsafe driving habits,” said Mayor Bob Kellar. “The new blue lights are a traffic enforcement tool that we hope will ultimately improve traffic safety,” he added.

Be ware all drivers in Santa Clarita
“Attention SCV Drivers, It’s another Blue Light Special !” 8-)
Highway Robbery blue light!!!
I guess they can’t see the green light on their side of traffic letting them know the light on the other side is red.
Good move. Too many people risking lives running red lights. Shouldn’t have removed the cameras.
This is awesome!
It’s pretty damn sad that the city has to spend so much money because of the selfish fools that think they are exempt from the red light. Maybe next they’ll find a way to blast a driver for not signaling. All of the basics of safe driving.
Lol they should do it red then xD
What the ….

Another revenue enhancement idea
Just spending more money…..

Hey everyone just follow the driving rules ok
You still can’t testify that the light was red because you were looking at a different light from a different direction. The best testimony is when you are looking at the same light.
Catch me if you can
One more distraction on the road
-_- probably going to cause more accidents.
Adam Carolla is not going to be pleased.
I’m all for anything that will make it easier to catch drivers who drive thru red lights.
Really Helen? Anything? Be careful with your words.
My friends son was killed the day they pulled the red light camera out. So yes, anything the city can legally do to get the pathetic drivers in this town to put others’ safety first
It will never happen ppl here are in to much of a hurry and only thing of themselves a lil blue like will not change human nature
Helen Harwood What if it was just an accident? I mean does a camera change someone who screws up? The camera is proven it did NOTHING to change anything.

I dont get it. They had to remove the cameras because they weren’t working/causing more accidents/unconstitutional. Yet they wanna implement some stupid blue light?
My thoughts too.
Pat Hawks I got so excited when I red the first 4 words but it wasn’t what I thought :p
I had the same reaction, even after reading your comment ?
Another bad move and waste of tax dollars by the city of Santa Clarita.
LAME…..this is just a fancy revenue generator let’s keep it real. There will be NO education value.
what intersections are these at?
Marshawn Rodgers
Do we get fined?
Marshawn Rodgers I knew Santa Clarita didn’t want to give up all that extra revenue.
These things aren’t for public safety. They’re for revenue generation. Now that people know about them they will slam on the brakes causing accidents just like the red light cameras.

Mind control devices, disguised as blue lights. ???
That’s why you’re supposed to wear foil helmets.
I wonder how many accidents this will cause. People already have a hard time understanding 3 lights.

Jonathan RamirezMario Lara Hey guys look we found out what the blue light is…
? you can thank me later.
They get rid of the Cameras now this. I hope they are not only in the poor sections of town.
Red light violations are soooo bad in SCV, I’m glad they are doing something. I almost got t-boned by a guy who ran a red light the other day on Golden Valley and the guy was going probably 70. Scared the crap out of me. I am always cautious while crossing any intersection now.
So the lights matter but not the speed?
Does Santa Clarita still have working red light cameras? Or were those all taken out of service?
All gone.
SC already has some of the worst intersections on the planet. How about they work on improving traffic flow, not stifling it. Idiots.
What if these blue lights could flash to warn motorists there is an emergency vehicle approaching? That would be more helpful to motorists (though not revenue-generating.)
How about everyone SLOW DOWN! ?
Who is thinking of these things ? They should try golfing. I’d like to see what they would come up with for that.
Sonny Martinez
Totally agree:

Great, but will they actually write tickets for it???

Gotta catch the people running all these red lights.. Hopefully it works, too many fatal accidents around here..
How many have we had in red lights? You have numbers and I’m not being sarcastic? I’m just curious because most of the accidents I’ve seen are speeding and drunk. Most people don’t choose to run red lights.
