One Step Closer to Drought Relief
I’m very proud to announce that on Thursday, the House passed H.R. 2898, the Western Water and American Food Security Act. I spoke on the House Floor about the importance of this legislation, which will address the major issues that are causing California’s drought and will provide much-needed relief to our state.

Fighting for Commissaries
On Friday I signed a letter opposing a proposal to privatize commissaries and conduct a privatization test at five of the largest commissaries. One Senator and five Members of Congress, including myself, urged the Chairs and Ranking Members of the Senate and House Committees on Armed Services to reject the proposal on the grounds that it will result in higher prices on groceries and elimination of crucial services for military families.

More Progress on CEMEX
Last week I continued my fight to prevent CEMEX from breaking ground on a mine in Santa Clarita. This time I took a new approach and sent a letter to the Army Corps of Engineers, urging them to deny CEMEX the permits necessary to proceed on the project. Read the letter here:

Helping Veteran Entrepreneurs
I am a proud cosponsor of H.R. 2499, the Veterans Entrepreneur Act of 2015, which passed the House last week. The bill would eliminate certain fees for veterans at the Small Business Administration, making it easier for them to access capital so they can start their own businesses. Catch me speaking about the legislation on the House floor here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i6QIT7tS_S0

Habitat for Humanity Key Ceremony in Santa Clarita
The Habitat for Humanity Key Ceremony in Santa Clarita on Saturday afternoon was fantastic. I was very moved as 26 military families from the area were given keys to their new homes. Thank you to everyone who made this program a success.

A Simi Student in DC
I want to recognize an outstanding intern from my office in Simi Valley, Leesa Danzek. She has taken her long record of activism and dedication in the political arena to the next level by landing a summer internship in Washington, D.C. Leesa is currently doing work for the prestigious Republican Jewish Coalition at its national headquarters, right down the street from my office. Congratulations Leesa!

Torch Runs
The 2015 Special Olympics are right around the corner, and they received a warm welcome last week. I was honored to speak at Torch Ceremonies in both Palmdale and Santa Clarita. The games begin on July 25th. Best of luck to the athletes!

Vets Home Ice Cream Social
On July 11th I paid a visit to the Pete Knight Veterans home in Lancaster to host an ice cream social. I chatted with the residents about a wide array of issues, mostly focused on improving or reforming the VA and helping them get access to quality medical care.

“H.R. 2898 ….. which will address the major issues that are causing California’s drought”. Lack of rain is what is causing the drought. What .. they going to make it rain? Lack of water storage or lack of imported water has absolutely nothing to do with the drought.

That should read…… Lack of water storage or lack of imported water has absolutely nothing to do with ‘the cause of’ the drought.
