RECENT ARTree EVENTS
Old Town Newhall’s ArtSLAM
We had a great turnout for the first ArtSLAM of the season. Young artists created their own “Eyes of March” on wood blocks.
February Speaker Series
We learned what makes a community arts center successful from guest speakers, Moses Mora and Jim Rice of Bell Arts Factory in Ventura.
Tween Library Drop-In Session
Eager kids completed a multi step tree, sprouting crayon rubbed leaves on tracing paper and attached to a plaster tree. The completed project can be viewed at the Old Town Newhall Library.
UPCOMING ARTree EVENTS
March Speaker Series
Splashes of color, captivating lyrics, and stories created for sharing. These are just some of what artist Jeudi Cornejo Brealey brings to her one-woman cabaret shows. Creativity like this also makes her a mom who brings art-to-life for her two teenage sons. Theirs is a family that believes art is not just hung on walls, but is integrated into almost everything they do.
Join us for stories, inspiration, and maybe even a song, at our next ARTree Speaker Series, Thursday, March 26th at 6:30pm at the Old Town Newhall Library. Bring the kids. They’ll have fun, too.
3-Dimentional Art Class
Each week students will create a three dimensional art piece using wire, plaster and clay. Signup online through Seasons magazine. First class starts March 26th at the Santa Clarita Activities Center.
Much, Much More
(April is a very busy month!)
The evening of Thursday, April 2nd brings another ArtSLAM event to Downtown Newhall. Our activity will be a “Bottle Cap Extravaganza.” Bottle caps are everywhere and the ARTree has figured out what to do with them. A large line drawing on a giant canvas can be the beginning of a collective masterpiece, with bottle caps.
Old Town Newhall Library Teens and Tweens Drop-In Session is April 3rd. This month’s activity is cut construction paper landscapes. Session runs from 3-4:30pm.
April 6, 6:30pm at the Santa Clarita Activities Center is where you can tell the city what you want included in its Arts Master Plan. There is power in numbers, and we need every ARTree supporter there to show the city that we care about art. Step-up and step-out to make your voice heard in this important town hall that will help determine the direction of public art support in this city for the next 10 years. See you there!
Sunday, April 12th is The City of Santa Clarita’s Earth Arbor Day at Central Park from 10am-4pm. We’ll be there, artistically reusing and recycling.
Psst…we have a secret. A new Drop-In Library class is being developed for adults — yes, adults! Once a month, we will be crafting to relax. Learn new art skills away from the computer! Details soon.
