Oakmont Assisted Living Center residents received an equestrian education Tuesday during a field trip to Santa Clarita’s Jump for Joy Equestrian Center.
Linda Luger, owner and trainer, described the breeds of a dozen horses moving past the visitors seated in the shade just outside the main arena.
Among the dozen demonstrating, Brittany Ratclkiff, on Boomer, a quarter pony, executed jumps; firefighter Johnny Hanna rode Picasso, a paint, close to the rail so folks could get a good look , and Mckenna Martin, a budding ballerina, showed a few dance moves atop Peanut, a quarter pony.
Sierra Anaya, rode her horse, Gypsy, a quarter horse, while Lugar called out commands to have Gypsy walk, trot and gallop. She also showed off Gypsy’s braided mane.
Anton Gonzales, wearing Native American regalia to honor his Apache ancestry, provided color riding Eclipse, a thoroughbred, painted as a war horse.
