The City of Santa Clarita, in partnership with The Trust for Public Land, will host a ribbon cutting event on Wednesday, October 29 at 1:30 p.m. to celebrate the City’s acquisition and protection of Gateway Ranch. Attendees may park at Newhall Church of the Nazarene, located at 23857 The Old Road, to board a free shuttle to the event. All interested in attending must RSVP by Monday, October 27.
Gateway Ranch is a 302-acre property located on the northern half of Las Lomas in the Newhall Pass. Once planned for a major housing development, the land is now part of the City’s Open Space Preservation District and protected from development indefinitely.
“The acquisition and protection of Gateway Ranch is a major victory for the City of Santa Clarita and all who call this valley home,” said Mayor Laurene Weste. “Thanks to a partnership with The Trust for Public Land, the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy, as well as State, local and grant funding, we have safeguarded hundreds of acres of beautiful open space and a major wildlife corridor from the threat of development forever.”
The grand opening will begin with refreshments at 1:30 p.m., followed by an official dedication and ribbon cutting at 2:00 p.m., and will culminate with a brief guided hike led by City staff at 2:45 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
