shakespearebestThe Santa Clarita Shakespeare Festival is holding auditions for the annual Shakespeare in the Park series. This summer marks the 7th year performances will be at the new location, Rivendale Park and Open Space in Towsley Canyon.

This year the production is Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, directed by Erin McBride Africa. Ms Africa is a director and theatre professor, who directed Cymbeline and 12th Nigh the Rock Musical for SCSF in the past.

Auditions are Saturday April 23 between 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. Appointments are required. Callbacks are Sunday April 24 between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Anyone interested in auditioning must request an appointment by sending a picture and resume to casting@SCShakespeareFEST.org. You will need to prepare a Shakespeare monologue and be prepared to sing (without an accompanists). Rehearsals begin mid May, with the production opening July 23 and running through mid-August. “It will be magical” said Erin McBride Africa, “The forest is a magical place where fantastic things happen during the course of the play. It will be great fun for the entire family.”

“We are VERY excited for this summer!” said David Stears, executive director of the company. “We have a new location, deeper into the canyon, and the old buildings and horse stalls have been removed. The stage will be beautiful with majestic mountains of Towsley Canyon in the background.”

In addition to the Shakespeare in the Park production, SCSF holds a summer educational program for local high school students, the Apprentice Company. Open and free to all local high school students, participants in the apprentice program take classes and workshops in acting, text, voice, movements, learn about production and technical theatre, and assist in the production of the Shakespeare in the Park series. Local students interested in the Apprentice Program can email

Shakespeare in the Park is part of the LA SummerFEST, an eclectic, summer cultural festival of music, theatre, and special events, produced by the Santa Clarita Shakespeare Festival.
