Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies are looking for a man suspected of attempting to lure a young girl into his car Wednesday afternoon.

A 13-year-old girl told authorities she was waiting for a family member to pick her up near Placerita Junior High in Newhall at approximately 2:30 p.m., when a man driving a green van pulled up next to her.

The incident took place on Dalbey Drive between Placerita and Newhall Park, according to a notice from Placerita.

“She said it pulled up next to her and he said, ‘hello,’” said Deputy Kevin Duxbury of the Crime Prevention Unit. “She said hello back and he then asked if she wanted to get in the car.”

The girl then got scared and ran away, Duxbury said. The van also drove away at the same time.

The driver is described as a balding white man in his 50s with a chest-length beard. The van is described as a 1990s style green commercial-use van. The victim was unable to get a license plate number.

“Remind students to walk with friends whenever possible when traveling to and from school, and to always be aware of their surroundings, keeping their eyes and ears open.” said Dave Caldwell, Public Relations Officer for the William S. Hart Union High School District.
