[KHTS] – Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station officials are responding to reports of a suspicious object in a storage unit in Castaic.
The report came in at 12:05 p.m. at the Castaic Lake Storage facility on the 3100 block of Castaic Road, said Lt. Charles Norris, of the SCV Sheriff’s Station.
Sheriff’s Station officials said the object appears to be a grenade but they are unsure if it is real or not, Norris said.
Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Arson and Explosives officials are en route to the location, Norris said.
UPDATE: 1:40 p.m.
Arson and Explosives investigators arrived on scene around 1:34 p.m.
The property owner evacuated the property when the grenade was found, said Lt. Derek Sabatini, with the SCV Sheriff’s Station. No other evacuations have been conducted by Sheriff’s Station officials.
UPDATE: 1:50 p.m.
Castaic Lake Storage held an auction at 9 a.m. Monday, said facility owner Jane McKinney. An individual bought a unit and around 10 a.m. reported a grenade found in the unit.
McKinney said the individual notified her of the grenade and she called Sheriff’s officials.
The Arson Explosives Unit left the scene at around 2:35 p.m. and took the grenade back to their facility where they rendered it safe, according to Santa Clarita Sheriff’s officials.
