[KHTS] – The City of Santa Clarita’s 4th annual Hit the Trail event was hosted at Bridgeport Park Saturday from 10 am to 12 pm.
Hit the Trail was presented by Total Financial Solutions and was held a week prior to the Amgen Tour of California’s arrival in Santa Clarita.
Two guided community bike rides began at Bridgeport Park, a four mile ride and a 10 mile ride, that traversed local bike trails in the Santa Clarita Valley. Both rides ended at Bridgeport Park.
Evan Thomason,Spokesperson for the City of Santa Clarita, said the ride was a good way to bring people together in bike-friendly Santa Clarita, and promote the Santa Clarita legs of the Amgen tour on May 16 and 17.
“We have a ton of AMGEN swag,” Thomason said. “The local cycling community has really responded to this event and people can do tricycle races and have fun with their friends and neighbors. We are supportive of the cycling community, with 70 miles of off-street trails in Santa Clarita.”
Tricycle races were held at the starting point of the community bike ride, where two attendees could face-off on the small course marked with orange cones.
Jersey Mike’s provided free sandwiches for the event and Performance Cyclery was on hand to pump up tires and give a free bike clinic, according to a news release from the City of Santa Clarita.
City of Santa Clarita Councilmember, Bob Kellar, attended the event and gave a short speech before the ride began.
“We are so proud of this city and all that we do throughout the year, including the Concerts in the Park and the Amgen tour,” Kellar said. “I’m always proud to represent the City of Santa Clarita.”
Approximately 200 people participated in Hit the Trail’s community bike rides Saturday.
