George Runner
George Runner, who represents Santa Clarita on the state board of equalization, has endorsed Scott Wilk for state assembly.
“We need more individuals with both strong conservative principles and the ability to get things done in the Legislature,” Runner said in an e-mail message Thursday. “I have known Scott for many years and can attest to his steadfast commitment to core principles, and ability to build consensus without compromising those principles.”
Runner, R-Lancaster, represented the SCV in the Assembly before ascending to the state senate and, most recently, the board of equalization.
Scott Wilk
Wilk, a Santa Clarita resident who was reelected to the Santa Clarita Communty College District (COC) board of trustees last month, is seeking the assembly seat being vacated by Cameron Smyth, R-Santa Clarita, who will be termed out after the November 2012 election.
The candidate filing period has not yet opened. Three Republicans and one Democrat have indicated their intent to make a bid for the office. The Republicans are Wilk; Patricia McKeon, wife of U.S. Rep. Howard “Buck” McKeon, R-Santa Clarita; and Hart District Board Member Paul Strickland of Santa Clarita. The Democrat is Edward Headington of Granada Hills.
Under California’s new open primary system, the top two vote-getters will advance to the general election regardless of party affiliation.
Runner made no mention of any other candidate in his e-mail.
