The Santa Clarita Artists Association held its 28th Annual Art Classic fine arts competition at William S. Hart Park’s Hart Hall in Newhall on October 14.
“Proceeds fund high school scholarships,” said Cathy King, event coordinator. “We exhibited art from our three local high school senior scholarship winners who are majoring in art.”
First Place (Gold) was awarded to the following categories:
Oil: Evening Rain by Lena Quagliato
Acrylics: Habitat by Lena Quagliato
Watercolor: Kiss of Spring by Cheri Marcovitch
Dry Media: Fire Flies by Mike Farrell
Sculpture: An Imperfect Basket by Nadiya Littlewarrior
Mixed media: Marie’s Ghost by Laura Ledesma
Masters: The Pen is Mightier Than the Sword by Jim Bakman
Photography: Solitude by Nicole Wilde
Best of show: Old Lady by Jocelyn Cole
City Award of Excellence: Gracie and Feather by Christopher Darga
Kevin Hass and Raoul de la Sota judged 114 pieces of art in all categories. Second place (silver) and merit winners were also awarded.

Mike Farrell won the SCAA 2017 Gold in the Dry Media Division for “Fireflys.”
Lena Quagliato took the SCAA 2017 Gold in the Acrylic Division for “Habitat.”
Laurie Finkelstein won the SCAA 2017 “Jury of Your Peers” award.
Jim Bakman won the SCAA 2017 Gold in the Masters Division for “The Pen is Mightier Than the Sword.”
