[KHTS] – At least four court cases with connections to the Santa Clarita Valley, for mayhem, child molestation and other offenses, were in various stages this week. Deputies are also investigating several crimes.
Deputy Sung Jin Pak, 47, of Westridge, was arrested Friday, May 16 in connection with an Oct. 12 incident. Pak fired his service firearm into the air after being the victim of a “ding-dong-ditch” prank.
Deputies announced Monday that they are still seeking the suspect in an attempted murder case that happened 16 years ago, when a man was stabbed and left for dead in a Newhall apartment.
Cory Allen Flenory, 27, was charged mayhem, vandalism and assault with a deadly weaponWednesday in connection with an alleged road rage incident involving a BB gun.
Convicted sex offender Yale Yurman, 70, of Valencia, could face life in prison if he is convicted of yet another child molestation charge, a deputy district attorney said Thursday.
Lt. Stephen Leavins, of Valencia, is one of seven Sheriff’s Department officials accused of obstructing a federal investigation into jail abuse. Each official is being tried separately, and Leavins’ trial was in the jury selection phase as of Thursday.
Jameson Witty, 18, of Tujunga, and Anthony Edward Janow, 25, of Phoenix, are due back in court on June 18 for stealing a piece of Paul Walker’s wrecked Porsche off the tow truck that was taking it from the scene of the crash.
Deputies are planning another DUI checkpoint for Friday evening, between 6 p.m. and 2 a.m., at an undisclosed location in the Santa Clarita Valley.
Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies have released the crime reports for May 12 through May 18 in Canyon Country, Castaic, Newhall, Saugus, Stevenson Ranch and Valencia. KHTS publishes crime reports as they are made available.
This past week in Zone 7, the following Part-1 Crimes occurred.
A robbery occurred near the 19300 block of Soledad Canyon Road. The suspect concealed numerous display items in a purse. When confronted by loss prevention personnel, the suspect pushed her way through toward the exit and out to the parking lot. This incident is currently under investigation by Santa Clarita Valley Station detectives.
A residential burglary occurred near the 27300 block of Sierra Highway. The suspect forced open the front door to the residence. While inside, the suspect stole approximately $2,000 worth of jewelry from the victim. This incident is currently under investigation by Santa Clarita Valley Station detectives.
A grand theft occurred near the 26900 block of Sierra Highway. The suspect stole the victim’s wrist watch and gold bracelet from a table while the victim was using the restroom. This incident is currently under investigation by Santa Clarita Valley Station detectives.
Castaic/Val Verde Crime
Deputies responded to the 3100 block of Ridge Route Road for an assault with a deadly weapon call. A male adult confronted several men who were with his girlfriend at a local hotel. An argument ensued and one male was slashed on the face with a knife. The suspect with the knife then slashed all four tires on the boyfriend’s SUV before fleeing in an unknown vehicle.
Responding deputies searched the area for the suspect vehicle but it was not located. Several hours later, the suspect vehicle returned to the hotel. The boyfriend said he stepped into the street to get the license plate of the vehicle and the driver swerved the car in his direction in an attempt to hit him. Deputies responded and a second assault with a deadly weapon report was written. The suspect is still outstanding.
A 2009 Honda Civic was reported stolen from Church Street in Castaic. The vehicle owner said her ex-boyfriend took the vehicle without her permission. The vehicle was recovered by L.A.P.D. in West Valley.
A business in the 2700 block of Fantastic Lane reported $4,000 worth of damage after a break in to their studios. Several rooms were ransacked and fire extinguishers were sprayed throughout the business. It is unknown how the suspects made entry.
A business on Castaic Road reported several thousand dollars’ worth of prescription glasses stolen. The suspects made entry by prying open the back door to the business.
A park in Val Verde had an electrical room door pried open. No items inside the room were taken. Damage was estimated at $400.
A look back at the crimes reported in the Newhall area last week.
On Tuesday, May 13, a residence in the 24900 block of Walnut Street was burglarized through an unlocked bedroom window. On Friday, May 16 a male juvenile was arrested for possession of stolen property after the victim recognized his wife’s cell phone and a necklace the subject had in his possession.
Between Thursday, May 15 at 10 p.m. and Friday, May 16 at 7 a.m., a window smash vehicle burglary occurred on Valle Del Oro near Dockweiler Drive. A mini tool set was stolen.
On Thursday, May 15, between 3:45 a.m. and 5 a.m., a window smash burglary of an RV occurred in the 22400 12th Street and a DVR was stolen.
On Monday, May 12, between 7 and 10:30 p.m., a residential burglary occurred in the 21200 block of Ficus Drive. A window was pried open and a computer was stolen.
On Tuesday, May 13, at 5:30 p.m., a 2009 Ford Edge was stolen from the 24600 block of Wiley Canyon Road. The vehicle was recovered in a nearby the neighborhood a short time later, but the victim’s purse from the vehicle was not recovered.
There were two thefts from unlocked vehicles from an apartment complex in the 24000 block of Copper Hill Drive. The first occurred on May 9. The victim discovered someone had stolen miscellaneous items from his unlocked vehicle while he left it unattended for a short period of time. The second theft occurred on May 12. In both incidents miscellaneous personal items were taken.
There was a grand theft reported near the corner of San Francisquito Canyon Road/Mountain Way on May 11. The victim stated he left high dollar camera equipment hidden outside while he left for lunch. When he returned approximately 45 minutes later it was missing. Members of Santa Clarita Station are attempting to locate the equipment.
There were two shoplifting incidents reported on May 10. The first was from a grocery store in the 22600 block of Bouquet Canyon Road. The suspect was confronted after exiting the store without paying for his items. He dropped the items and fled the location. Detectives are following up on this case
The second shoplift incident occurred in the 26500 block of Bouquet Canyon Road. Suspect(s) unknown stole an item from a display case while in the store. Detectives are attempting to locate the suspect and property.
There were multiple arrests made over the past week in the Saugus area. The arrests include narcotics, DUI and violation of a court order.
Last week, the following Part 1 crime occurred in Zone 3 Stevenson Ranch.
A robbery occurred near the 25400 block of The Old Road. A male suspect exited the location, failing to pay for several items. When confronted by loss prevention personnel, the suspect produced a knife and quickly fled the location. The incident is currently under investigation by Santa Clarita Station detectives.
An aggravated assault occurred near intersection of The Old Road and Pico Canyon Road. A possible road rage incident occurred between two drivers resulting in a female passenger being shot in the eye with a BB Gun. A male suspect was arrested shortly after the incident. The case is being investigated by Santa Clarita Station detectives.
A residential burglary occurred near the 24800 block of Greenbrier Drive. The victim left the garage door open and when he returned, he noticed his car door was open and his vehicle was ransacked.
A commercial burglary occurred near the 22900 block of Coltrane Avenue. An unknown suspect entered the victim’s locked storage shed and took several pieces of horse riding equipment.
A burglary/shoplift occurred near the 25400 block of The Old Road. A male suspect was detained by loss prevention personnel after exiting the location, failing to pay for items. The suspect was subsequently arrested by responding deputies.
A petty theft occurred near the 25700 block of The Old Road. An unknown suspect took used cooking oil from an unlocked container stored in the rear of the location.
During the past week, the criminal incidents reported in Valencia included grand thefts auto, residential burglaries, vehicle burglaries and thefts from unlocked vehicles.
A 2003 Dodge Ram was stolen from the 23900 block of Creekside Road at 12:30 p.m. The vehicle was locked and stolen from the rear parking of the location. A 2003 Yamaha motorcycle was stolen from the 26500 block of Bryce Road at 1 p.m. The motorcycle was stolen from the side yard area of the victim’s home. The investigation regarding these incidents is currently ongoing.
Two residential burglaries occurred on the 24700 block of River Chase Drive and 24000 block of Avocado Lane between the hours of 2 and 11 a.m. Both reports indicated that items were stolen from inside the garage areas. One garage roll up door was left open. Items stolen were an iPad and two iPhones. The other entrance/exit was made via the side garage door. Items stolen were a Canon camera and trail bicycle.
There were three vehicle burglaries that occurred in various areas of Valencia. They were in the 27000 block of Victoria Lane, the 24400 block of Trevino Drive and the 23100 block of Cavello Drive all between the hours of 12 and 8 a.m. Items stolen were a wallet, sunglasses, GPS, tool kit, emergency pack and prescription medication from the center console/glove compartment area of the vehicles.
A theft from an unlocked vehicle occurred on the 28100 block of McBean Parkway between the hours of 3 and 4 p.m. The victim went inside her home leaving her purse and sunglasses on the front seat of the vehicle.
