Current business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs who would like to learn how to comply with California’s often complex tax laws are invited to attend a free Small Business Seminar and Resource Expo in Santa Clarita on Tuesday, Sept. 13.
California State Board of Equalization (BOE) Member George Runner is sponsoring the event with Congressman Steve Knight, Assemblyman Scott Wilk, Assemblyman Tom Lackey, Los Angeles County Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich, the City of Santa Clarita, and the Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of Commerce.
“Small businesses are a critical part of California’s economy,” said Member Runner. “Our goal is to help business owners be successful by ensuring they understand California’s complicated tax laws.”
Those looking for assistance with state and federal tax laws, as well as those who want to expand their business knowledge, will benefit from presentations given by representatives from the BOE, Employment Development Department, Franchise Tax Board, Internal Revenue Service, and the College of the Canyons Small Business Development Center. Seminar topics include avoiding sales and use tax problems, employee versus independent contractor, recordkeeping, forms of ownership, creating a business plan, and social media marketing.
