The City of Santa Clarita, along with the City Council and Blue Ribbon Task Force, will host the 8th Annual Evening of Remembrance on Saturday, Sept. 28, at 7 p.m. at the Youth Grove in Central Park, located at 27150 Bouquet Canyon Road.
This ceremonial event serves as a time of tribute to local youth lost in traffic-related collisions, while raising awareness about and stressing the importance of safe, conscientious driving. The event will include a “Forever Young” slide show presentation, a candle lighting ceremony, and a reading of the 84 names represented at the site.
“Each year we vow as a community to do all that we can to ensure no more lives are lost to careless driving. This evening is dedicated to educating the community about safe driving and how crucial it is to be responsible behind the wheel, while offering families and friends a place for reflection,” commented Mayor Bob Kellar.
The Evening of Remembrance takes place at the Youth Grove memorial, which features pillars that mimic cut tree stumps representing a young life cut short. The pillars surround a central monument urging the community to “Know More” about safe driving habits, and to pledge that “No More” young lives will be lost behind the wheel.
